THE TROGGS ,Who can forget their most memorably hit "WILD THING" ? "WILD THING" STORY : A band called "The Wild One"s in 1965 sang and recorded a song called Wild Thing. The song was written by Chip Taylor, who was a brother of actor John Voight. Record producer Larry Page liked the song and in a rushed 10 minute studio session The Troggs recorded "Wild Thing", and "With A Girl Like You". The Troggs were not yet a professional band. Singer Reg Ball (who later changed his last name to Presley) was a bricklayer by trade. While on the job one day he heard "Wild Thing" played on the radio. As soon as the dj said the song was climbing the charts ,Reg quit his job. three months later they were on tour. "Wild Thing" sent them to fame and the song is featured on most of their albums , but The Troggs was not a "one hit wonder band". Some people now days consider "The Troggs" ,the first British punk band. I think they fall into the "psychedelia" category. The
Troggs did provide some controversy . Many of their songs were banned
from radio airplay. The ESTABLISHMENT
considered
them dangerous to the morals of the young listeners. What
would they have done to rappers in those days ? Casteration and
deportation ? From 1966 the members were , Reg Presley, Cris Britton ,Pete Staples, Ronnie Bond (d.1992), Richard Moore, Colin Fletcher, Tony Murray. Present members are (Yes ,they are still together ,2008) Oringinal founding members Reg Presley , and Chris Britton ,plus new members , Pete Lucas and Dave Maggs.
